May 2015 Spotlights

D'Vorre and Hal Ober Elementary School

Mrs. Haley Payne is an extraordinary Kindergarten teacher at D’Vorre and Hal Ober Elementary School! Her classroom is full of energy and engagement! Visitors to her classroom would see students singing, reading, and working collaboratively. A student would even welcome you to the classroom as you enter! Students in Mrs. Payne’s classroom have exceptional speaking and listening skills! They use complete sentences, track the speaker, and stand while speaking to the whole group!

Mrs. Payne is a strong teacher leader! She is the Chair of her grade level and has opened her classroom to many Kindergarten teachers this school year as a model for the PZ 12 Literacy Framework! Mrs. Payne is highly organized, creative, and thoughtful when it comes to her students, her instruction, and her classroom! She is type of teacher who works all summer, and even completes her student holiday gifts before school starts! Mrs. Payne also networks with other Kindergarten teachers across the country through her blog! Check it out:

In addition to being an awesome teacher, Mrs. Payne is an avid cyclist and has shared her passion for riding with our whole school! She organizes an annual Bike to School Day each Spring, in which students learn about bike safety, and then complete a group ride to school with the Ober ES Staff and other community members! Mrs. Payne also supports Bike Rodeos at other elementary schools!

Our littlest learners are so lucky to have the talented Mrs. Payne and we are proud to showcase her as the PZ 12 Teacher Spotlight!

Clarabelle H. Decker Elementary School

Barbara Curtis was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. After 17 years of teaching in Michigan, she and her husband decided to settle for a warmer climate. She was first hired by CCSD as an ELL Specialist working with K-5 students, enabling those that spoke a different language at home to become more proficient in English.  For 11 years, she has been a Decker Dinosaur! Over the years, she has made many friends with staff, students, and parents.

In her 28 years of teaching, she has always set the bar high.  “I run my class from the 1st day to the last by only 4 rules:

1 BE KIND

2 BE SAFE

3 HELP PICK UP

4 HAVE FUN LEARNING

Hopefully, these will be carried by my classroom students through life’s journeys!”

Mrs. Curtis is retiring at the end of the 14-15 school year.  Her kind spirit and positive relationships will be greatly missed by all current and past Decker Dinosaurs.

Jennifer Jenkins has been a wonderful addition to Bendorf this year as our primary interventionist.  Her gentle manner but rigorous instruction has helped our students in first and second grade become more proficient in reading and math.  We have truly appreciated all her assistance with the RTI process and crunching data.
